GFWC Illinois Art Contests – The following contests are open to all club members:

GFWC Illinois Painting Contest is to encourage member’s artistic expression and to recognize and support members’ achievements in painting. This contest is open to amateur artist only.

GFWC Illinois Short Story and Poetry Contest is to encourage members to develop and use their creative writing skills; to recognize outstanding creative writing accomplishments among members.  Categories: Short Story – 2000 words or less, Musical Theatre/Drama – one act script (30-60 minutes in length), and Poetry – any style ranging in length from a minimum of 8 lines to a maximum of 50 lines.

GFWC Calendar Contest “A Year In Pictures” all entries (flower, fauna, vista’s etc) will be considered. Judges will look fro photo’s particularly suitable for calendars, such as photos relevant to particular months or seasons.  Photos must be taken during January 1 – December 31, 2009.

GFWC Photography Contest “The World in Pictures” is to promote photography as an artistic expression and a means of preserving special memories and events; to recognize the artistic achievements of GFWC members in the field of photography. Categories: Natural History: flowers, animals, insects, birds, trees, etc.; Scenic: vistas, landscapes, seascapes, snow scenes, bridges, parks, mountains, farmland, etc.; and Feature: human interest picture including people, events, and more.

GFWC Photography Contest “GFWC Volunteers in Action” is to promote photography as an artistic expression and a means of preserving special memories and events; to recognize the artistic achievements of GFWC members in the field of photography.

Arts and Crafts Exhibit is open to any member who enjoys making crafts. The following items will be accepted for judging the first day at the GFWC Illinois Convention on May 20: afghans, ceramics, china painting, comforters, counted cross stitch, crochet, decorative painting (wood, metal, etc), decorative painting (other), dolls – soft, dolls – hard, drawing, embroidery, holiday decorations, jewelry, knitting, latch hook, needlepoint, paper art, plastic canvas, quilts, scrap art, scrapbooking, sculpture, stamped cards (set of 5), stuffed animals, wall hangings, wearable art, and wreaths.
